UFC Fight Night : Font vs. Garbrandt Results

In last night UFC Fight Night card, we were able to see some well known names such as Ben Rothwell and former title challenger Felicia Spencer. Also, three very interesting bouts was scheduled for this card. First, bout between two very good middleweights, Jack Hermansson and Edmen Shahbazyan.

Next, co-main event and possibly title eliminator fight between former strawweight division champion Carla Esparza, and current hot prospect in strawweight division, Yan Xiaonan. And, as main event for this card, a 5 round bantamweight bout between contender on the rise, Rob Font, and former bantamweight division champion, Cody Garbrandt.

Moving to the results. In first fight of the night a very interesting scrap between Damir Ismagulov and Rafael Alves. After three round of fighting, Ismagulov (moving to 4-0 in UFC) got unanimous decision win and improve his winning streak to 15 while Alves didn't get a win in his promotional debut.

Joshua Culibao and Court McGee got their wins by unanimous decision while David Dvorak (2nd round submission), Bruno Gustavo da Silva (1st round KO) and Ben Rothwell (2nd round submission) got their wins by finishes.

Moving onto the main card where card opener was a bout between Jack Hermansson and Edmen Shahbazyan that ended as a unanimous decison win for Hermansson. Hermansson (improving to 9-4 in UFC) bounced back after loss from Marvin Vettori, who is scheduled to fight against current king of the division, Israel Adesanya, at UFC 263. On the other side, this is Edmen's second loss in a row (previously suffered TKO loss from Derek Brunso) and he fell to 11-2 (4-2 in UFC) in his pro career.

Ricardo Ramos (improving to 6-2) and Bill Algeo (fell to 1-2 in UFC) fought a three round fight that was ended by unanimous decision win for Ramos. Jared Vanderaa (improve to 1-1 in UFC) got his promotional debut against Justin Tafa (fell to 1-3 in UFC) after three round of fighting. We will see if Tafa will be UFC member in next months after dissapointing results from him.

Norma Dumont surprised everyone with split decision win over former featherweight title challenger Felicia Spencer in her promotional debut. Since women's featherweight division bassically doesn't exist, Dumont with this win probably secured her a chance to fight for the title against current double champion, Amanda Nunes. We will see how will UFC proceed with featherweight division in coming months.

In a co-main event Carla Esparza finished with some nasty ground and pound her opponent, Yan Xiaonan, and improved her win streak to 5 (improve to 9-4 in UFC). On the other side, Yan just suffered her first UFC loss after 6 win streak since her arrival in promotion. Esparza with this win could be possibly the next in line for a title fight against current champion Rose Namajunas (recently become first ever women in UFC history to reclaim the belt after TKO win over Zhang Weili). To be more interesting, they already met and that was on TUF Finale: A Champion Will Be Crowned for inaugural UFC Women's Strawweight Championship. Esparza won by second round submission. Now, almost seven years later, we have a huge chance to see a rematch between these two while UFC certainly consider maybe immediate rematch between Rose and Zhang. It's still uncertain at this momemnt what will be UFC decision.

And finally, the main event between Rob Font and Cody Garbrandt delivered. Font won this fight with very simple approach, by using his jab! He kept good movement and control of distance through the whole fight and didn't gave so much chance to former UFC Bantamweight Champion, Cody Garbrandt. Font (improve to 9-3 in UFC) improved his win streak to 4 and it's gonna be very interesting to see who is next for him. Garbandt (fell to 7-4 in UFC), on the other side suffered another loss, his 4th in last five fights. It's really important for Garbrandt to win his next fight no matter who will be his next opponent.

When whas all set and done, it was a really interesting night of fights and really imppressive performances by Carla Esparza and Rob Font was just 'cherry on top' of the whole night.

Also, UFC lightweight contender and color commentator Paul Felder, who was doing commentary for this event, announced his retirement from MMA during the live broadcast.
