UFC 229 : Khabib vs McGregor - Post Event Analyse

Prelims

• Tony Martin def. Ryan LaFlare via KO. Brutal head kick KO for Martin.

• Nik Lentz def. Gray Maynard via TKO.

• Yana Kunitskaya def. Lina Lansberg via UD.

• Scott Holtzman def. Alan Patrick via KO.

• Aspen Ladd def. Tonya Evinger via TKO. Brutal performance by Aspen Ladd that put her with top 135-er in UFC.

• Vicente Luque def. Jalin Turner via TKO.

• Jussier Formiga def. Sergio Pettis via UD. Formiga had control through the whole fight.

Main Card

• Michelle Waterson def. Felice Herrig via UD. In first round Herrig had clicnh control on the fence and she was trying to takedown Waterson but she defend well those attempts. Also Waterson had some very good high kicks. In second round Herrig try again to takedown Waterson but she counter that and get takedown on her own. And Waterson had solid work on ground for complete dominant performance in round 2. In third round Herrig finally finished in top position on ground but she didn't anything, in fact Waterson made more damage from her back than Herrig in top. Well deserved win for Waterson and her next opponent will probably be Claudia Gadelha.

• Derrick Lewis def. Alexander Volkov via TKO. For 2 and half round Volkov had domination, it was looked like he will finish Lewis in any moment. But, Volkov got to relaxed and Lewis throw one excellent right hand that he waited all night and then finish Volkov with very good GNP and secure win. Lewis is now most likely next contender for title but current situation is not good for HW fighters because UFC wants to book Daniel Cormier against Brock Lesnar for title.

• Dominick Reyes def. Ovince Saint Preux via UD. Reyes dominate and almost finish OSP in first round. In second they both looked like they are out of gas. In third OSP looked for finish and at end of round Reyes caught him and that was probably KO win for Reyes. However judge wait OSP to stand-up and then fight was decided by judges scorecards. Reyes made exclamation mark in LHW division and he continue his path to the top.

Co-Main Event

• Tony Ferguson def. Anthony Pettis via TKO. Ferguson and Pettis give us real war in Octagon. In first round Ferguson had initiative and he was better fihgter. In second Pettis caught Ferguson twice but Ferguson survived and even started beating Pettis at the end of round. When round was finished, Pettis hand was broken and his coaches said that he can't continue. This was 11th consecutive win for Ferguson and he must be next challenger for title.

Main Event

• Khabib Nurmagomedov def. Conor McGregor via neck crank. In 'biggest fight in UFC history' Khabib defend his title for the first time. In first round Conor try to keep fight on the feet and he had very good defence but Khabib eventually take him down and control for almost for minutes. In second round Khabib stumbled Conor with right hook and use that to again take him down and almost finish in one moment when Conor nearly didn't defend himself. In third round Khabib and Conor boxed whole round. In fourth round Khabib again retain his ground control over Conor he looked like without any strength to change things. Eventually, Khabib set up very good neck crank and Conor was forced to tap. After that it starting a real chaos in arena when Khabib jump over fence to fight against Conor's training partner Dillon Danis and then both teams started to attacking each other. After that we saw announce of winner without anyone except Bruce Buffer in Octagon because UFC didn't know what reactions will be from the fans. Anyway, Khabib next title defence ( if UFC don't strip him ) must be against Tony Ferguson he get his 11th consecutive win ( both him and Khabib now have 11th wins in a row ) before this fight and proved that he is number 1 contender right now.
