UFC 225 : Whittaker vs Romero 2 - Post Event Analyse

UFC Fight Pass Prelims

• Dan Ige dominate Mike Santiago and earn win after 50 seconds and secure his first win in UFC.

• Charles Oliveira defeat Clay Guida via guillotine choke after Guida try to go for takedown.

• Sergio Pettis defeated Joseph Benavidez in very close fight. Pettis was very good in stand-up and he was more precise, also he had excellent takedown defense throught the whole fight adn that was probably enought to secure big win for him.

• Anthony Smith destroyed Rashad Evans with one nasty knee to the head and secure big win for him.

FS1 Prelims

• Awesome performance from both, Chris De La Rocha and Rashad Coulter, especially in first round. In second round De La Rocha took Coulter's back and after some solid GNP he secure the win.

• Very close fight between Mirsad Bektic and Ricardo Lamas. Bektic had more control and probably that gives him adventage to win this fight.

• Claudia Gadelha is back on winning column after split decision win over Carla Esparza. Gadelha had ground control and that probably secure her win, but Esparza was more precise in stand-up and she had some good top ground position too.

• Curtis Blaydes defeat Alistair Overeem in dominant performance. Blaydes had ground control in first two round, in third he hurt Alistair and had excellent combination of punches. He takedown again Overeem and wait for his shot and when finally had that chance to finish fight he did that with some nasty elbows. Blaydes next should be Alexander Volkov or maybe winner of fight Miocic/Cormier.

Main Card

• In very funny fight we saw Mike Jackson unanimous decision win over CM Punk. This was fight for people to see how you will not supposed to fight, both fighters show very poor performance.

• Tai Tuivasa defeat Andrei Arlovski in very interesting fight and pretty close, by the way. Tuivasa is still undefeated and this was his 3rd straight win in UFC while Arlovski suffer this loss after two straight wins.

• Holly Holm dominate Megan Anderson with a lot of takedowns and fantastic control of fight through all three rounds. This was third Holly Holm fight in FTW division and her first win while Megan Anderson have her debut in UFC.

Co-Main Event

• Colby Covington proved that he is not just good in trash talk, he is also good tactician. That's why he defeated Rafael Dos Anjos because he didn't give space Dos Anjos in first three rounds with his excellent wrestling. In fourth round RDA caught him with one very good right hand and had initiative in that round. Fifth round was close but agains Colby forced clinch and secure his win becoming new interim WW champion. His next opponent should be Tyron Woodley, current champ.

Main Event

• Robert Whittaker defeat Yoel Romero in very interesting fight. Robert clearly wins rounds 1 and 2 while Yoel clearly wins rounds 3 and 5, but that 4th round was very close and decision could go either way. Winner was Whittaker by split decision and continue his streak to 9th straight wins in a row. We will see who is next opponent for Whittaker and Romero in their upcoming fights.
