Bellator 206 : Mousasi vs MacDonald - Post Event Analyse

Main Card

• Gaston Bolanos def. Ysidro Gutierez via TKO. Very close first round in which we saw one takedown from Bolanos and little more initiative than Gutierez. Bolanos had another takedown after minute in second and very soon after he attack Gutierez with push kick and very well placed left overhand that knockdown him and then finish with GNP. 4 pro wins for Bolanos, 4 finish.

• Keri Melendez def Dakota Zimmerman via SD. Melendez started strong with nice front kick that lead her to takedown and then even slam. Melendez had control and initiative in top position on ground for about 3 minutes that was stopped by very good attempt of triangle choke and then switch to armbar attempt for Zimmerman. From the start of second round Zimmerman initiate clinch and try to takedown her opponent but without success. Melendez had 30 seconds and she worked very nice with knees to the body. Melendez try to keep distance on start of round three but Zimmerman again initiate clinch and she is able to takedown Melendez. Melendez very fast was able to be in top position and then get up on the feet. Zimmerman again goes to clinch but she didn't do anything significant and last 30 seconds of round three Melendez had top position. This one is well deserved win for Melendez while Zimmerman show that she had potential.

• Aaron Pico def. Leandro Higo via TKO. Pico started figth very aggressive and he take the center of cage. Higo was constantly moving back and on the side. Pico caught him once but Higo was able to escape from that cannonade but Pico caught him with right and then Higo was on survival mode but somehow he keep himself in fight for one more minute and then just stumbled and that was it. After this win Pico is very close to title fight.

Welterweight Grand Prix

• Douglas Lima def. Andrey Koreshkov via rear-naked choke. In first round Koreshkov had initiative and clinch control on the fence. Koreshkov try to take fight to the ground but Lima successfully defend all takedown attempts from Koreshkov. Very patient fighting from both fighters in second round, they both waited for opponents mistake. In third round Lima continued to throw leg kicks while Koreshkov try to takedown him unsuccessfully. Fourth round was pretty much same as round 2 and 3, lot of feints and Koreshkov's attempts for takedown. But at the end of round it looked like Lima hurt Koreshkov. In fifth and last round, Lima started attacking and push pace. Koreshkov try another takedown attempt Lima scramble and then landed few shots. He use confusion of Koreshkov and took his back, set-up very deep RNC and put on sleep Andrey Koreshkov. This was also third fight beetwen them, Lima now have 2 wins ( one by knockout, one by submission ) while Koreshkov have 1 win ( by unanimous decision ). Douglas Lima also advance to the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix semifinal where he will wait winner of Paul Daley/ Michael Venom Page fight.

Co-Main Event

• Quinton Jackson def. Wanderlei Silva via TKO. In first round we saw back and forth battle beetwen these two MMA legends. In second round Jackson dominate Silva and at the end of round 2 he hit Silva with excellent right hook and then finish him with GNP. This was 4th fight beetwen these two fighters. Now, it's tied 2-2, all 4 fights was finished with knockout.

Main Event

• Gegard Mousasi def. Rory MacDonald via TKO. Slow start for both fighters in the first round, nothing significant. MacDonald try to takedown but Mousasi use that to defend takedown and get himself in top position. Mousasi very patiently build himself position and he was able to go in fullmount and after that he finish MacDonald with elbows and punches and successfully defend his title for the first time. His next opponent might be winner of Machida/ Carvalho fight or Rafael Lovato Jr. he had win on Bellator 205. MacDonald now have Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix quaterfinal against Jon Fitch.
